Chimbel, Goa: Tensions flared in Indiranagar, Chimbel, as local authorities initiated action following a complaint regarding alleged encroachment and illegal sale of land allotted under the government’s 20-point programme.
The issue was brought to light by Santosh Rajput, a concerned resident, who formally lodged a complaint with the Chimbel Village Panchayat. Rajput alleged that portions of land earmarked for the economically weaker sections under the 20-point scheme were being sold unlawfully and that unauthorized constructions were mushrooming on the site.
Acting swiftly, the panchayat authorities, accompanied by the local police, conducted a site inspection. However, the visit triggered unrest as a crowd gathered and began to protest, creating a tense atmosphere during the inspection.
Officials have indicated that action is likely to follow based on the findings of the inspection. The incident has raised serious concerns over land misuse and the need for stricter enforcement to protect government welfare schemes.
Further investigation is underway to identify the extent of encroachment and hold those responsible accountable.
