The Cuncolim Police have registered an FIR against an unknown individual for allegedly impersonating a courier delivery agent and duping a local resident of ₹98,000 in a case of cyber fraud.
According to the complaint, the accused contacted the victim under the pretext of delivering a courier parcel and requested a nominal payment of ₹5 via a link for delivery confirmation. Upon clicking the link and completing the transaction, the complainant’s bank account was systematically drained of ₹98,000.
Police have confirmed that the case is being investigated under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. A cyber fraud probe is currently underway to trace the accused, who remains unidentified.
Authorities have once again urged the public to remain cautious and avoid clicking on suspicious links or making online payments to unknown sources, even if the amounts appear insignificant.
The case highlights the rising threat of online impersonation and digital payment scams in Goa.
