Panaji, July 12:
In a significant move to enhance waterway connectivity and reduce travel time, the state government is set to launch two new RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) ferries — Gangotri and Dwarka — on the Ribandar–Chodan route. The new service promises to cut the total commute time, including waiting and river crossing, to just 12 minutes.
River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Dessai announced the upcoming launch, calling it a “safe, faster, and more comfortable” mode of transport for commuters. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to modernize and promote inland water transport in Goa.
“We will conduct a detailed review of the service after one month of operation. Based on feedback and performance, we plan to expand similar RoRo services to other locations in the state. We will also assess the fare structure during the review,” the minister added.
The RoRo ferries are expected to ease traffic congestion on the Ribandar–Chodan route, especially for daily commuters and goods transporters, while also offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional road transport.
The exact date of inauguration will be announced shortly.
