Panaji, July 19:
Goa has set a new benchmark in tourism, welcoming over 54.55 lakh visitors in the first six months of 2025, according to the latest data released by the Department of Tourism. The figure marks a significant surge compared to previous years, reaffirming Goa’s status as one of India’s most sought-after travel destinations.
From January to June, the state received 51.84 lakh domestic tourists and 2.71 lakh international visitors, showcasing strong demand from both within India and abroad. January emerged as the busiest month, attracting 10.56 lakh tourists, driven largely by winter vacations, festive events, and cultural festivals.
The momentum continued through the typically quieter summer season. Despite the rising temperatures, June alone saw 8.34 lakh tourist arrivals, reflecting Goa’s increasing appeal as a year-round destination.
Tourism officials noted that international arrivals remained stable, with a significant number of travelers from Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Improved connectivity, promotional campaigns, and diverse tourism offerings — including wellness, eco-tourism, and heritage experiences — have contributed to the sustained global interest.
“We are witnessing a robust revival in tourism, and these numbers are highly encouraging,” said a senior Tourism Department official. “Goa’s infrastructure upgrades, coupled with safety initiatives and event-based tourism, have played a key role.”
Industry stakeholders are optimistic that the trend will continue into the latter half of the year, especially with major festivals, music events, and the monsoon tourism push around the corner.
As Goa continues to reinvent itself beyond its beaches — promoting hinterland tourism, heritage walks, and culinary experiences — experts believe the state is well-positioned for another record-breaking year in 2025.
