Service to Operate on Alternate Days from August 23 to September 11
PANAJI: In a significant step toward easing vehicular transport along the western coast, Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) has announced the launch of a new Roll-On Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) car service between Kolad (Maharashtra) and Verna (Goa). The service will commence from Kolad on August 23 and from Verna on August 24, operating on alternate days until September 11, 2025.
The Ro-Ro service will run daily from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following day. Vehicle owners must report by 2:00 PM on the day of departure. Each rake can accommodate up to 40 cars.
The freight charge per car is ₹7,875, with an additional one-time registration fee of ₹4,000 payable at the time of booking. The service also allows up to three passengers per vehicle to travel in the accompanying train, with options of 3AC (₹935 per person) or Second Seating (₹190 per person).
Bookings are open from July 21 to August 13, 2025, at KRCL’s Belapur (Navi Mumbai) and Verna offices.
KRCL officials said the initiative aims to reduce road congestion, cut fuel costs, and provide a safe overnight transit option for car owners traveling between Goa and Maharashtra.
