Panaji, July 22:
A delegation of municipal workers, accompanied by a local councillor, called on Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to express their heartfelt gratitude for a major reform announced during the ongoing session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
The workers lauded the Chief Minister’s decision to grant temporary status to daily wage workers employed across various government departments. The announcement, made by Dr. Sawant in the Assembly yesterday, marks a significant shift in employment conditions — allowing workers to transition from uncertain daily wages to a more stable fixed monthly salary.
“This reform recognizes the dedication and hard work of thousands of labourers who have served the government tirelessly for years,” said one of the municipal workers present at the meeting. The group also thanked the Chief Minister for fulfilling a long-pending demand that had been raised repeatedly by workers and their unions.
Local councillors and union representatives described the move as “historic” and said it would bring economic security and dignity to hundreds of families across Goa.
Chief Minister Sawant assured the delegation that the government remains committed to protecting the interests of low-income and contractual workers and will continue to introduce people-centric labour policies in the future.
The reform is expected to benefit a large number of municipal and panchayat workers, many of whom have been serving for over a decade without permanent status.
