Morjim, July 11:
In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Crime Branch of Goa Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Odisha for possession of a large quantity of suspected Ganja near Arabian Sea Beach Resort at Tembwada, Morjim in Pernem.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a team led by PI Kishor Ramanan and LPSI Pragati Malik, along with HC Irshad Watangi, PCs Mahabaleshwar Sawant, Swapnil Simepurushkar, and Kritesh Kinalkar, laid a successful trap and caught the accused, identified as Laxminarayan Bhimsen Dora, red-handed. He hails from Golapalli, Baragan, Ganjam, Odisha.
The accused was found in possession of flowering and fruiting tops of the Ganja plant weighing 11.914 kilograms, valued at approximately ₹12 lakh in the illicit market. Various other articles related to the offence were also seized during the operation.
Laxminarayan was placed under arrest, and a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered. Further investigation is being conducted by PI Kishor Ramanan under the supervision of DySP Rajesh Kumar and overall guidance of SP Crime Rahul Gupta, IPS.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking in Goa.
