New Delhi/Panaji, July 17:
In a moment of pride for Goa, the state capital Panaji has been awarded the prestigious title of Cleanest City at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25. The award ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, and the honour was presented by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
Representing Goa at the event, State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate received the award amid applause from dignitaries and officials from across the country.
The recognition comes as a result of sustained efforts by city authorities, civic workers, and residents to maintain hygiene, promote waste segregation, and enhance sanitation infrastructure under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Panaji’s achievement highlights its commitment to environmental sustainability and urban cleanliness.
Speaking after receiving the award, Minister Vishwajit Rane expressed gratitude to the citizens and the CCP team, saying, “This accolade belongs to every Panaji resident who has played a part in making our capital clean and green.” Mayor Rohit Monserrate added that the recognition motivates the city to further its goals of becoming a model urban centre for cleanliness and civic responsibility.
The Swachh Survekshan Awards, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, are India’s largest cleanliness survey assessing urban areas based on sanitation, innovation, and citizen feedback.
Panaji’s top ranking in the 2024-25 edition stands as a testament to Goa’s ongoing efforts to build a cleaner and healthier urban future.
