Bicholim: In a major development aimed at transforming urban infrastructure in Bicholim, local MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye has announced the introduction of a Pune-style parking system along with a comprehensive ₹2 crore renovation of the town’s vegetable market complex.
During a site inspection of the long-neglected market premises, Shetye acknowledged the deteriorating condition of the structure and emphasized the urgent need for repairs. “The market has suffered years of neglect, and it’s time we give it the attention it deserves,” he said, outlining plans for a complete overhaul to improve facilities for vendors and shoppers alike.
In addition, to address the persistent issue of traffic congestion in the town, the MLA revealed plans to adopt a structured parking system modeled after successful initiatives in Pune. “We are studying urban models that work. The Pune-style parking system is efficient and will bring much-needed order to Bicholim’s traffic situation,” Shetye stated.
The initiatives are expected to significantly improve the town’s commercial environment and mobility, offering long-term benefits to both residents and local businesses. The proposed revamp will also include better amenities and safety features in the market complex.
The projects are currently in the planning stage, with tenders and detailed proposals to be floated in the coming months.
