Panaji, July 18:
Renowned singer Hema Sardesai has revealed that she was recently approached by senior political leaders, including those from national parties, with offers to join active politics. In a candid statement, the singer disclosed that a senior politician personally urged her to join their party, while a national political outfit even proposed to nominate her to the Rajya Sabha.
However, Sardesai has turned down all such offers for the time being. “I respectfully declined both offers,” she said, adding, “If someone approaches me in the future with a genuine intent to bring about positive change through politics, I might consider it. But as of now, I have no such plans.”
Known not only for her powerful voice but also for her outspoken views on social issues, Hema Sardesai has long been a prominent figure in Goa’s public life. While her refusal to enter politics may disappoint some of her admirers, she reiterated her commitment to social causes and said that she will continue working for the people in her own way.
Her statement has sparked renewed interest in her possible future political role, should the right opportunity arise.
