Panaji: Addressing the long-standing concerns of taxi operators in Goa, BJP State President Damu Naik has assured that the party is committed to resolving the challenges faced by the sector. Speaking on the matter, Naik emphasized the need for a localized understanding of Goa’s unique context — something he believes is often overlooked by officials.
“Our IAS officers don’t exactly know what Goa is. They tend to compare the state with others, but Goa is different,” Naik stated, adding that this misalignment also affects policy decisions related to taxi operations.
He acknowledged that taxi operators across the state are grappling with several difficulties and referred to them as “very hardworking people” who deserve the government’s support. “We will consider all aspects and take our taxi brothers and their associations into confidence,” he affirmed.
To address the issue systematically, Naik revealed that a dedicated committee has already been formed to study the matter in detail. “The committee will look into the grievances and practical challenges, and the report will be submitted to the Chief Minister,” he added.
This statement comes amid rising tensions in Goa’s transport sector, with local taxi operators expressing dissatisfaction over app-based services, fare structures, and enforcement policies. The BJP leadership’s outreach signals a potential shift towards a more consultative approach in handling the sector’s concerns.
