Mapusa, July 11:
Mapusa Police have arrested three individuals in connection with a land fraud case involving the illegal sale of Communidade land at Cuchelim, Mapusa. The arrests were made following a complaint filed by Mrs. Rinki Rajesh Jha, a resident of Khadpawado, Cuchelim.
According to the police, the accused – Sumit Maheshwar Fadte (34) of Cuchelim, Raju Krishna Mandrekar (50) of Camurlim, and Raja Anthony (43) of Cuchelim – fraudulently induced the complainant to purchase a 270 sq. mts. plot allegedly belonging to the Communidade of Cuchelim.
The complainant stated that prior to June 10, 2025, financial transactions were carried out under the pretext of selling the said plot. However, the accused failed to transfer the legal ownership of the land and also did not return the sum of ₹9.75 lakh paid by her, thereby cheating her.
After a detailed investigation, all three accused were taken into custody on July 11 and produced before the JMFC, Mapusa, which remanded them to four days of police custody.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
