Panaji, July 11:
Panaji Police have registered a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy against two individuals for allegedly defrauding CSB Bank by pledging fake gold to secure a loan of ₹7.35 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Jannat Hanabarkadadi (32) and Pranesh T. Karekar (38). According to the police, Hanabarkadadi pledged the spurious gold at the bank, while Karekar, who was employed as a valuer with the institution, falsely certified the gold as genuine.
Based on the bank’s complaint, an FIR has been lodged against both individuals. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding internal checks in the gold loan verification process.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are verifying the involvement of any additional parties. Further action will follow based on the findings of the probe.
