Borim, July 18:
Residents of Borim have voiced serious concerns over the unauthorized dumping of garbage in open areas of the village, particularly near a local field where children frequently play. The presence of hazardous waste, including broken glass pieces, has raised alarm over the safety of children and the growing risk of health issues in the locality.
According to villagers, the garbage is being dumped by unidentified individuals, often under the cover of darkness. “The waste is not only an eyesore but a potential breeding ground for mosquitoes, raising the risk of vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria,” said a resident.
The issue has also been reported in other parts under the jurisdiction of the Borim Panchayat, pointing to a broader pattern of illegal waste disposal in the area. During a recent gram sabha, villagers highlighted the matter and urged the local panchayat to take immediate preventive measures, including installing CCTV cameras and imposing strict penalties on offenders.
Locals have demanded regular monitoring and better waste management practices to ensure public health and environmental safety.
The panchayat is expected to address the concern in its upcoming meeting, following increasing public pressure to put a stop to this growing menace.
