Panaji / New Delhi: In a move to build momentum for the upcoming International Purple Festival – Goa 2025, the state’s Minister for Social Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Subhash Phal Dessai, along with State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Guruprasad Pawaskar, undertook an official visit to New Delhi.
The Purple Festival, a landmark event dedicated to celebrating and empowering Persons with Disabilities, is scheduled to take place from October 9 to October 12, 2025 in Goa. The high-level visit was part of the preparatory efforts to ensure strong participation and national-level support for the festival.
During the visit, the Goa delegation extended formal invitations to several key Union Ministers and engaged in meaningful discussions concerning the rights and welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Goa. The visit also focused on exploring inter-state collaboration and central support for disability-related initiatives.
In a significant interaction, the delegation called upon Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood, and Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Singh (Indraj). The discussions centered around inclusive policy frameworks, accessibility improvements, and strengthening cooperation between Delhi and Goa in implementing best practices for the empowerment of PwDs.
Minister Subhash Phal Dessai highlighted the importance of national participation in the Purple Festival and Goa’s commitment to making the 2025 edition a milestone in promoting inclusivity and dignity for persons with disabilities.
The International Purple Festival, first launched in 2023, has gained national recognition for its vibrant blend of cultural, educational, and awareness-driven events tailored to showcase the talent and contributions of the disabled community.
