Panaji, July 9:
The Akhil Goa Rajya Anganwadi Karmachari Sanghatana, affiliated with AITUC Goa, staged a protest at Azad Maidan on Tuesday as part of the nationwide general strike. The protest was held to express solidarity with workers and farmers across India opposing the central and state governments’ labour and agricultural policies.
Raising slogans and holding placards, the Anganwadi workers demanded the rollback of policies they claim are anti-worker and anti-farmer. The union criticized the central government’s recent labour reforms, alleging they dilute worker rights, job security, and social protections. They also opposed the government’s push for privatization and its handling of public welfare schemes.
“The government’s policies are systematically weakening the rights of Anganwadi workers and helpers, who are the backbone of grassroots child and maternal care services. We demand recognition as government employees, fair wages, and pension benefits,” said a representative of the union during the demonstration.
The protestors also extended support to the ongoing struggles of farmers, particularly those impacted by the agricultural reforms introduced in recent years.
The union reiterated its commitment to continue raising its voice until the governments address their long-standing demands. No incidents of unrest were reported during the peaceful protest.
