Canaginium: South Goa SP Tikam Singh Verma on Monday confirmed that six persons from Jharkhand have been arrested in connection with the recent assault on a police constable. He cautioned that any act of hostility against the police or the general public would be dealt with sternly and punished under the law.
Earlier, on August 17, Cuncolim Police arrested four men — Jebiyar Dung Dung of Varca, and Suresh Hariya, Rahul Kisan, and Amit Lohra of Betul — following a violent incident at Sunset Point near Parul University in Canaginium. Two more arrests have since followed, taking the total number of accused in custody to six.
Police sources said investigations are underway to ascertain the motive behind the assault, while security has been stepped up in the area to prevent further disturbances.
