Porvorim, July 18: In an act of alertness and bravery, a 75-year-old woman from Merces was rescued from attempting suicide by a vigilant traffic constable at the Mandovi bridge on Thursday.
The elderly woman was spotted trying to jump off the Mandovi bridge when Police Constable Ram Suryawanshi (PC 9701) of the Traffic Cell, Porvorim, who was on duty at Malim Circle, quickly intervened and prevented a possible tragedy. His swift action ensured the woman’s safety and helped avert a heartbreaking incident.
Following the rescue, Porvorim Police Station personnel, under the supervision of Head Constable Madan Tari, worked to trace the woman’s family. She was later safely handed over to her son after necessary procedures.
The reasons behind the attempted suicide are still being looked into, and police have urged citizens to seek help in times of emotional distress.
Authorities praised Constable Suryawanshi for his presence of mind and timely response, which saved a life. The police department has reiterated its commitment to protecting and supporting vulnerable individuals.
