Panaji:
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday addressed several crucial governance and policy matters following a Cabinet meeting, asserting that there are no complications regarding the Tribal Bhavan project except for a legal issue. “There is only a legal issue pertaining to Tribal Bhavan; there is no other issue as far as the government is concerned,” he clarified.
Speaking on the ongoing debate around the taxi aggregator app, the Chief Minister urged all stakeholders not to mislead taxi operators. “We want the taxi business to run smoothly and tourism to flourish. Do not try to create any confusion. I will hold a separate press briefing on the taxi aggregator app and explain it properly,” Sawant stated.
In a significant infrastructure boost, the Cabinet approved the transfer of 2,400 square metres of land for the construction of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan at Porvorim — a long-awaited step aimed at strengthening social justice infrastructure.
In another key decision, the Cabinet sanctioned the renaming of the Department of River Navigation to the Inland Waterways Department, which will now function as a separate entity to focus on the development of water transport infrastructure.
The Cabinet also approved the Goa Animal Breeding and Domestication Bill 2025, which is set to be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session. The bill proposes a ban on the import, sale, and breeding of aggressive dog breeds like Pitbulls and Rottweilers, citing public safety concerns.
These developments mark a series of progressive administrative moves aimed at addressing infrastructural needs, animal welfare, and transport sector reforms in the state.
