Panaji: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has announced that 50 beaches across Goa, covering a stretch of 82.2 kilometers, are now being maintained under a new beach cleaning contract. The initiative, which began on March 1, includes 102 additional dead ends, incorporated based on requests from coastal MLAs and local panchayats.
The cleaning operations are being carried out round the clock by a dedicated workforce of 525 workers working in shifts. The move aims to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the state’s popular tourist beaches, especially during peak tourism seasons.
Minister Khaunte further stated that the Tourism Department is open to involving local self-help groups (SHGs) under the current contract, provided they express interest and willingness to participate in the cleaning effort.
The government hopes this initiative will ensure a cleaner, more welcoming coastal environment for both tourists and locals.
