Latambarcem, July 14:
In a significant policy stance aimed at promoting agro-based industries, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has made it clear that no permission will be granted for setting up any industries other than food processing units at the Latambarcem Industrial Estate.
Speaking on the matter, the Chief Minister stated, “We have been receiving several proposals for setting up other types of industries at the estate. However, I have personally rejected such proposals. Latambarcem Industrial Estate is meant exclusively for food processing units and will remain so.”
The decision is in line with the government’s broader vision to boost agricultural value addition, promote local produce, and generate employment in rural areas through sustainable, clean industries.
Dr. Sawant emphasized that this focused approach will not only support Goa’s farmers by ensuring better market linkage for their produce but will also attract investment in cold storage, packaging, and processing facilities — strengthening the state’s agri-business ecosystem.
The move has received support from local stakeholders who see it as a step toward balanced industrial development that complements Goa’s agricultural potential while avoiding the environmental and infrastructural strains of heavy or non-compatible industries.
The Latambarcem Industrial Estate is one of the state’s key projects aimed at rural industrialization, and with this clear policy direction, the government hopes to build it as a model hub for food-based enterprises.
