Mapusa: In a move aimed at boosting public safety and crime prevention, the Mapusa Municipal Council has approved the installation of CCTV cameras at key junctions and public spaces throughout the municipal area. The project, estimated at ₹1 crore, will be funded under the MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme).
The surveillance initiative is designed to cover high-traffic zones, marketplaces, and other socially significant locations to enhance monitoring and deter unlawful activities. The decision was finalized during a meeting of municipal councillors held on Monday, where implementation strategies and priority areas were discussed.
Union Minister of State and North Goa MP Shripad Naik has extended his full support to the project. His office has facilitated the allocation of MPLADS funds, underscoring the Centre’s commitment to strengthening urban security infrastructure in the region.
Municipal officials believe the new CCTV network will aid both in day-to-day public safety management and assist law enforcement in maintaining order. The installation work is expected to begin soon, with tenders and technical assessments currently underway.
