Panaji: In a proactive step to enhance food safety at the grassroots level, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Goa organized a dedicated registration camp for 145 Anganwadi Centres under the Bardez block. The initiative ensures that these centers are formally brought under the ambit of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The move aligns with FSSAI’s recent decision to simplify the registration process for Anganwadi Centres by waiving fees and introducing a special “Kind of Business” (KoB) category, enabling centers to obtain a five-year license with ease.
FDA officials also conducted training sessions during the camp to educate Anganwadi workers on essential hygiene and sanitation practices related to food handling. These sessions aimed to empower frontline workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain food safety standards and deliver safe, hygienic nutrition to children and mothers.
“This effort is part of our larger mission to build a robust, hygiene-focused nutrition ecosystem across Goa,” said an FDA official. “By bringing Anganwadi Centres under FSSAI’s fold, we are reinforcing our commitment to safe nutrition and the well-being of our youngest citizens.”
FDA Goa plans to continue such camps across other blocks to ensure statewide compliance and promote food safety awareness among community-level nutrition providers.
