Ponda, July 19:
The Government Health Quarters at Tisk, Ponda have become a ticking time bomb, with the buildings lying in a dangerous and deteriorated state for nearly two decades. Locals have voiced serious safety concerns, warning that the crumbling structures are on the verge of collapse.
Despite multiple complaints, representations, and follow-ups with authorities over the years, there has been no concrete action—neither demolition nor redevelopment. The buildings, originally meant to house health department staff, are now abandoned and have become a potential hazard to the public, especially to children playing nearby and pedestrians passing through the area.
Residents of the area are demanding urgent intervention before any untoward incident occurs. “We have been raising this issue for years. The structures are not just an eyesore but a serious risk. Do we have to wait for a tragedy before action is taken?” questioned a concerned local.
Citizens are calling on the PWD and Health Department to act swiftly, either by demolishing the unsafe structures or by redeveloping the site for public use, such as a community health center, park, or housing for frontline workers.
As monsoon intensifies, fears have grown that the weakened structures may not withstand heavy rains, adding urgency to the long-neglected issue.
